Yahoo! Life of the Party: Fresh seafood at dampas

I'll be the first to admit that I don't eat at dampas. So when this article was assigned to me, I had to bug my friends for help. Anything food- and travel-related, people are always happy to talk!

While writing it, I was salivating. And I wanted to pack a bag and fly all over the country to try out the seafood! The places I specified are just a few of the country's best, I'm sure. Where else is the best seafood served?

Yahoo! Life of the Party: Where to find the best street food in Manila

My prenatal tests revealed that my parents didn't have me vaccinated for Hepatitis A and B, I have since avoided the wonders of Filipino street food. So when I wrote this article, I asked for tons of help. Everyone had their favorite spots.
Front page again! It's the article on the upper right hand corner.

So if you want to explore Manila's finest street food, check out my article!

Smart Parenting, March 2013: Pia Guanio-Mago

I wrote the cover story of this month's issue of Smart Parenting. Interviewing Pia Guanio was such a delight. This was a woman who really shared with me what she thought, felt, experienced, believed in. That's very rare in celebrities. Most of the time, for self-preservation's sake, stars give rehearsed answers—safe, politically correct, non-offensive, bland.

Because Pia wasn't like that, it was so much fun to talk with her. Writing about her adventures into motherhood was just as enjoyable. Pia thinks so, too!

I'm so thrilled to get feedback like that! Thanks, Pia, for the trust! I'm glad you enjoyed my article about you.

Yahoo! Life of the Party: Kapitolyo restos for every budget

Actually, that wasn't the topic. My assignment was to write about the most highly recommended restaurants in Kapitolyo and to group them according to what they're best for (i.e. date place, barkada night, family dinner, etc). So I did a poll and interviewed people and I came up with a pretty good list. Top of that list? Poco Deli and Rub Ribs.

This is the article that came out:
Lower right hand corner please!

It became a budget-guide piece.

It's okay. It's tighter. I just feel bad about all the interviews I did and the wonderful things they said about the menu of this, the taste of that. Oh well. This always happens to articles! That's why when I used to be an editor and I asked writing samples from applicants, I never asked for their published work. Most of the time, what comes out in print is not the original piece. A writing exercise then and there is usually the best gauge of anyone's writing skill!

Ya, I'm cruel that way haha!

Enjoy my Kapitolyo restaurant guide here. Now you know where to go and what to eat this weekend!
